Why is the New Zealand singer Hayley Westenra here? Well without her help this track would not have been recorded. This piece is by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. This is a cantilena from his "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5". This was part of a series of musical works bringing a modern, Brazilian take on a style of music mastered by J S Bach.

Now why Hayley? Well, it took me nearly 20 years to find out what this piece was called. I remembered a Daytime TV programme talking about this work and how it was performed by a soprano singer and 8 cellos (weird combo?). After much research and no lucky finding the right info, I almost gave up, until I watched a music programme on ITV3, where Hayley and the cellist Yo-Yo Ma actually performed this....once known it was much easier to look for other renditions.

Thanks very much Hayley....
